Tried it… well, grids are more or less OK (even though there is too much excess stealth for lvl80 char, IMHO), just aethersands themselves… aren’t really promising, gil-per-hour-wise. Also, 4 out of 6 grids bring you very cheap crystals, which makes them quite worthless. Maybe it changes when 5.1 with raids and raid gear crafted from aethersands is released (assuming that it WILL actually use aethersands rather than demimateria III).
@gray for that retainer équipment (left side) What did you do to get the items for the retainer after you got the original equip?
I just gave my own (first) set to my combat retainer. I didn’t socket it or whatever – as soon as I finished MSQ, I don’t really need my combat job anyway (well, apart from doing dailies here and there just for fucks and laughs). Then I visited that dude in Tempest again and took another set for myself, as Lyfox recommended.

Today I’m doing more than million a hour. I entered ShB having 6 mil, now I have 50+ (plus I’ve spent a lot getting all jobs to 80). I think in a month I’ll still do some 600-800k hourly, so it will be still safe to assume that 2 mil per 2-3 hours is normal income.
Im just playing the game and having fun. Nothing special.
Oh! “Fun” 🙂 Well, when “fun” comes into play, any discussion ends, because “fun” beats any math. I, on the other hand, was just trying to actually calculate if retainers are actually useful or not for a bot-user (without major investments like lots of ilvl450 gear, that is).
I dont know why you keep thinking bot forum = rmt forum, most of us arent here for that.
I think bot forum = gil making forum, no matter what do you do with this gil. Note that I don’t even participate in squadron/trust topics, where this assumption is false.
I think this my post should be useful for ya. 24 most useful and reliable (!) crafter skills – well, without new ShB skills, but it’s not like you actually need them.
The Balance theorycrafting discord has tentatively tagged THIS as the ‘optimal’ meld if you’re going full overmelding.
Dunno who made this “optimal” meld – some billionaire or smth… but pentamelding WHITE eq (which we will throw away in some 5 days or so, once the first raid patch with green crafted stuff is out) with materia V and VI is utter bullshit. Basically, there are two or maybe three ways to meld, depending on rotation:
1, cheap) 700 GP + enough gathering to have 85% chance to dig 80* unspoileds (that’s 1830 gathering or so) + the rest into perception + Coffee Biscuit; rotation: Sharp II -> Discerning -> Impulsive -> Discerning/Single -> Impulsive -> Discerning/Single -> Methodical. This way you get 2 to 4 collectables of average collectability 483 from 6-“charge” node.
2, expensive) 850 GP + as much gathering as possible + Peppered Popotoes; rotation: Sharp I -> Discerning -> Methodical -> Single -> Methodical -> Single -> Methodical -> Utmost -> Methodical. You get guaranteed 3 collectables of average collectability 517 from 6-“charge” node.
The rest variants I managed to google were worse that these two. In theory, 4x Instinctual should bring more collectability (at average) than 4x Methodical; practically, though, here and there you will receive unlucky collectables of less that 470, which will clutter your inventory, as Miqo can’t destroy them nor lower their quality to normal and stack them. On the long run (overnight) most probably it will cause “inventory full” break, so I’d rather pass.
My retainers already bring me 10.
Ok, I found the Tempest dude and equipped myself and my combat retainer in ilvl430 gear (thanks WangHaiYun). Ok, I crafted full set of the best possible white gear (ilvl415) to fill the rest slots. Still 7 lvl78 items per hour! Had to join a hunt linkshell and participate in several hunts to collect enough goetia and buy a piece of ilvl450 jewelry – then and only THEN it started to bring me 10 leathers per hour. My retainer is now equipped better than me 😛 ffs… Lyfox, do you really spend your time hunting to equip your 9 retainers??
I don’t know what the problem with that is. Let Miqobot run Squadron dungeons for 2-3 hours and your GC seals cap is full, even when you ranked up to the max rank where you can hold 90.000 seals.
2-3 hours spent in squadrons mean about 2 millions lost. Isn’t it a bit too high price for 90k seals?
So I guess my estimated “each GC seal lost is about 5 gil lost” was a bit too low. It seems like your seals cost you some 20 gil each, at least! Which makes extra profit from retainers even lower than I calculated above…

Then use my one instead. Backtrack issue will be fixed once next version of Miqo comes out; other than that, it works fine (tested for some 3-4 hours).
@gray what method did you use to level your crafters fast?
AutoHotKey scripts, my head and about 150 leve allowances.

We will try to reproduce this bug in our labs.Here is the grid which causes the bug – hope that helps.
Also I’ve found another issue: while going to unspoileds, Miqo tries to land before using Truth. It would not be any problem… if it didn’t try it while flying over a non-landable spot. Then it just spams mount key forever, which effectively hangs up the bot. To make this bug appear, you have to use scenario where you send your toon to an “idle spot” over a group of unspoiled nodes (via “waypoint(XX)”), and then launch “startGathering(1)”; preset has to have “use truth” checked, but Truth has to be off at that moment, indeed – say, after “changeJob()”. Not sure if existence of beacons affects this bug appearance or no.
Dwarven Cotton (plus etc vegetables) and Dimythrite Sand (plus some another useless sand). Designed for MIN/BTN training from 76 to 80 rather than for real farm, thus avoiding aggro mobs via long roundabout ways. Flymount needed.
