You’re the noob if you think that materia will cost 2 times less once SE release the first set of end-game raid gear recipes, that’s completely the opposite. Materia prices explode once they’re useful and/or required.
Making billions was to buy them all cheap month ago, and wait for the release of the first set of expert recipes.
In case you didn’t notice, I was talking about crafting materia. Month ago there was no such thing as materia VII and VIII at all; week ago it was selling at about 80k and 800k correspondingly; now it sells at 50k and 500k; I guess I buy myself some once prices drop down to 30k/300k or so – right BEFORE next patch comes out.
If I were you I would just equip 1 set of full white level 80 HQ crafted gear without any melds. It is hilariously cheap and it’s already MUCH better than my green 70 pentamelded gear that served me well in Stormblood.
In theory (numeric-wise) it’s better, yes… practically, though, there is no difference: I produce 99% HQ crafts anyway, so why bind things you can sell? 🙂
But of cos, I’ll make myself one – a bit later, before the patch which adds master recipes. Not sure if I’m going to overmeld it tho…
I always use the first gear set I can pentameld, and only meld as needed when new mats drop. Then I gear an alt with the second green set when it comes out, and then pentameld them as needed. It lasts me 2 years and is easy and relatively cheap and spaced out.
Not sure if I got this part right (why pentameld the very first – white! temporary! – set? or rather – why pentameld at all, unless these are some challenging recipes like old Ala Mhigan gear, before change?), but thanks anyway! Now let’s see if Arc answers something – it’s he who likes to pentameld everything, hehe…

There is something weird in ShB crafting… and that’s noticeable difference between me and other people who have trained their DoH skills up to 80. So far it looks like this:
– Me: still using my good ol’ green lvl70 set with a single overmeld on each piece; never using any new abilities (just didn’t care to test them); crafting intermediate mats like nuggets, ingots, threads and lumber by spamming synthesis; using sequence which makes any white craft (lvl80 included) HQ in 99% cases or so, from NQ mats; I don’t equip this stuff myself – it goes to market immediately.
– Others: spam overmelding materia which costs 30-40k per piece (!) on totally unworthy eq (lvl80 white crafted stuff!!!).Obviosly, it makes me think: WTF? So far I’ve found just three possible explanations:
1) They are n00bs who have no clue about decent rotations, and thus compensate lack of knowledge with extra gil.
2) They make themselves prepared to crafting new lvl80 green crafting gear, which is not out yet (still n00bs: in some 2-3 weeks, when we get these crafts, materia will cost 2x less for sure).
3) They know something I don’t and craft something I have no clue about – something that requires way higher crafting stats.Naturally, options #1 and #2 don’t really bother me; it is #3 which makes me wonder. So my question is: does somebody know any sane reason to waste tons of gil on overmelds right now? Are there any green crafts/master recipes for sale I failed to find?
What exactly did Miqobot see at waypoint #16? Was it an ephemeral node that despawned during navigation? Or was it something else?
WP #16 in that grid was probably the closest wp to the ephemeral node (not 100% sure though). No, ephemeral node did not despawn at that moment; though, as I tend to set max distance to really low values like 3-5, Miqo just failed to find a route to ephemeral node (I guess), and continued the normal cycle. Node blacklist or “exact match” checkbox should probably solve the issue.
How many times have you encountered this message?
It’s not 100% stable reproduceable bug, yet I encountered it twice or trice.

It was always like that with Artifact Gear. Once you obtained it via quest progression in any expansion you can throw it away and purchase mutiple copies from Calamity Salvager.
Incredible (2)! Well, I guess now I get your point concerning using retainers, hehe… Not that I’m going to buy 7 more retainers myself (as I’m greedy, and they are pain in da arse to level up, and you still have to grind insane amounts of GC seals somehow), but still. Thanks!
I’m not sure if this is a new issue or it was like this before, but when there is an active ephemeral node among common nodes, Miqo starts to backtrack and generally behave weird:

2. Next week or in 2 weeks (I’m not sure), the new raid will be released in normal mode. With that, people will start to get their hands on new materia.
Materia or demimateria? I doubt we get any “more new” materia other than VII and VIII (which is released already); also, from what I gather, people don’t believe we are getting new demimateria anytime soon.
On the other hand, demimateria III prices are dropped quite low shortly after Miqo was updated… I wonder if people think it becomes next to useless soon because of new demimateria?
Dump the i430 set on your retainer, go talk to the guy again, ??????, profit.
o_O Incredible… but that’s prolly bug exploit (= bannable), no? I mean, it’s just too good to be true AND intended by SE!

I bet you ran it as lvl80 😀 While white oak is for lowbies – who, indeed, aggro lowlevel mobs.
Yeah the ilvl for retainers to bring max yield/time is i425
How the heck (2)? The best craftable combat gear atm is ilvl415. Mkay, you can receive one set of blue gear via a quest. I’d never let my retainer have it, as I need it myself; but ok, you can do it. But then again, how do you equip 9 retainers in ilvl425 eq at THIS moment?…
My retainers already bring me 10.
How the heck?? We are talking about endgame (Sea Swallow) skins, right?
Retainers are extremely crappy bots. Let’s calculate…
Let’s assume each more or less equipped retainer brings you 10 leathers per hour. 10 per 40 mins is out of question, I think: FWIK, it requires raid eq, and nobody would invest that much time to equip retainers (and even if they do, by the time this task is completed, Sea skins will cost much like Gazelles in SB). So, that’s 90 leathers. Each leather costs 2k now; in a month prices will go down to 1k or so (and I think there is no point to train retainers for just a single month per each 2 years). So, that’s 90k gil hourly. Though, re-sending retainers requires real time – the time I spend farming (no idea how much, but let’s assume that’s 3 mins per 9 retainers); also it costs ventures (and, honestly, I have no idea where are you going to get that much ventures, but ok). Ventures means GC seals; each GC seal lost is about 5 gil lost, or 1k gil per venture. So, your profit compared to mine would be 90k – 9k (ventures) – 30k (after a month my profits will go down to normal 10k per minute or so again, I assume) = 51k per hour, or 612k daily (I assume that no sane person would bot for more than 12 hours a day), or about 18 mil monthly. Each retainer costs $2 per month, right? So basically you buy 18 mil for $14.
Now, know what? I’d never pay $14 for 18 mil gil 🙂 Moreover, I’d gladly sell my own gil at about $1 per mil, hehe!
