I’m sorry but no, things aren’t identified as a Trojan unless they meet specific criteria. Windows Defender and other Virus scanners don’t flag things unless the things embedded within the code match known threats.
The specific trojan being reported with this release of Miqobot indicates key logging, backdoor access to the PC and remote installation of software capabilities. There are a ton of apps on the internet that do key logging without being classified as a trojan. Whatever approach they’re using that is indicating potential remote access to the systems is a huge red flag. Or at a minimum provide a technical reason on what they are doing, how they are doing (without giving away proprietary information) to help.
Developers staying quiet on the issue and the community pushing for people to just “whitelist and move on” is how bot nets are formed across the internet. It happens all of the time with trusted software. I won’t renew my license without the code being changed to be less intrusive or the developer openly share what’s going on to cause it.
Yes, this always happens with every new version release.
False Positive is a bug in antivirus, but since we have no affiliation with antivirus vendors and have no access to their source code we can not help them fix it.
This is why there is a special entry in our FAQ section.
Even if you did not experience this problem before, it doesn’t mean that you never will. Antiviruses are updated often and each update has a chance to introduce a new false positive bug.
We highly recommend to report this behavior to your antivirus vendor.
After downloading the 6.4 update for Miqobot, I’m getting multiple virus warnings for the executable, past the “unknown developer” error.
For some unknown reason, shortly after you responses (thank you) it no longer was detecting a virus and I got the usual warning which you can then bypass, and the bot installed itself.
Many thansk for the replies
Most likely, your antivirus has downloaded a new update which introduced a new False Positive.

Please whitelist your Miqobot application and report this behavior to your antivirus vendor.

You need to ignore it and go ahead with the install. It is not a virus nor ever has been.
Hi,
I’ve been a happy user of Miqobot for several years and have never had any substantial issues with the app.
I was using the bot today for some regular gathering and went to check on it and found the app had stopped. Closed down. I clicked back on the link to repopen it and some strange message error came up (I am not a techy guy, did not save the error message or anything).
My usual default action on something like this is to just go download the bot again and hey presto!!
Usually when I downbload the bot I do get a warning come up about the bot not being recognised or something but I can usually bypass this and away we go.
Now my computer is saying that it’s failed with Virus Detected.
Since I’ve had the bot, my life hasn’t imploded with ID fraud and credit cards being taken out (although a surprising number of Nigerian princes do seem to be contacting me???) so I am assuming that Miqo is as safe as I have always found it to be and that this maybe an update or something from Microsoft. I’ve tried doing all the things that the web suggests about exceptions and things, but as I said, I am not a techy guy and most of this is over my head.
Could someone make any suggestion in plain English of what might have happened and how I can resolve this?

please someone help me i already turnoff firewall/anti-virus and try to use VPN. but still have a problem miqobot Emergency! Couldn’t connect to the catnip server! many time when i play 🙁
yes i already turnoff firewall/anti-virus but yes still have a problem.
I had the same problem and it seemed to be my firewall/anti-virus software. Which was weird because it was working fine the past few days (and is listed as an exception) but for some reason it was suddenly getting flagged and blocked.
It might have been a recent update to my software that now blocked Miqobot. Once I added more exceptions it was working fine the rest of the night!

I made a similar post quite awhile ago. It seems that it is very common and if you Google the name of what they say is a virus you will find it is very common and not a virus. It is just them seeing that Miqo can interact with FFXIV and maybe it uses code that other bots use.
It is safe and I would recommend doing a search to see yourself. I did and it all shows it is safe. Just a virus protector being extra safe which is a good thing in a way.

Miqobot does not have any virus in it. It’s a false positive, this can happen time from time. You just need to whitelist it^^
