    After my 1 month is up, does the license key just expire and I get a new one when I pay $10? I don’t recall setting up a monthly subscription through Paypal.

    Yea you buy or renew your key by clicking buttons on the website manually. Theres no auto renewal so its impossible to forget cancelling it.
