Yeah transferring to EU is kind of a no-go, long-time friends, FC lead, FC house, static lead, private house, tons of gil,…
May I ask you which VPN gave you this 30ms decrease? It’s not a lot, but at this point I’ll be glad to get any decrease possible.
Also, there some people on Reddit and on official forums talking about the netcode and how high latency could be a no-issue if the devs were modifying game netcode.
I’m not sure how much of this is true, but it looks like in Tera, some people created a proxy server running locally in your computer, intercepting every data between you and the server, and sending you prevently the authorisation to use your skill, so you don’t have to wait 180ms to be authorised to use the ability, making your game responsive, preventing to lose DPS.I would prefer the devs to get rid of these authorisations in the first place, I have a hard time to believe the game works like this when you compare that to multiplayer FPS games where you don’t have to wait to use your stuff, and yet the server still has authority.
Maybe I’m lacking knowledge to understand fully the reasons behind this in XIV, but to me it looks dumb and unnecessary, and poor decision when so many people suffer from ping issues that could be solved and allow anyone to pick the datacenter they prefers disregards of the ping.

May 18, 2017 at 7:02 pm #3123Ive tried mudfish: http://mudfish.net/
After you signup, add Whats My IP + FF14 to your items. Then select a datacenter for FF14 and it will calculate the best route based on your location. Might worth a shot. It gives something like 0.07Gb of traffic for free but i didnt bother after seeing 158ms verdict. But hey when Miqo gives us combat im thinking to start an alt on EU at least. Would be nice to enjoy new raids in full glory. And youre totally right losing friends aint a solution.
May 18, 2017 at 8:26 pm #3124May 19, 2017 at 8:55 am #3125Ugh 180ms.. Same boat man from 120ms to 186ms. They moved NA from Montreal to somewhere on West coast. At least thats what mudfish is saying, US West nodes are 5-10ms now. Literally around the globe for us. Tried a few vpns but its only 158 at best. I consider transfer to EU now but its just ugh.
From windows resource manager, it says the remote ip for the game is 204.2.229.107, using an ip locator it says it’s somewhere in Detroit so dunno.
Anyway, have you tried BattlePing, it goes from 160ms to 90ms for me, and I’m in latinamerica.
May 19, 2017 at 11:42 am #3126Yea battleping sets me at 160-175. And it doesnt have optimal route calculation feature so idk what server to choose. Windows resource monitor doesnt help because it shows only latency to battleping server, effectively culling the rest of the route. So if you select a server closer to you it will show lower numbers which are not correct.
The main problem for us is distance. Theres not much we can do about sending signal over the Atlantic. But thanks appreciate the advice.EDIT: Even if servers were to respond instantly the signal still can not travel faster than light speed. It takes ~133.5ms for light to travel half way the globe and back again.

May 19, 2017 at 12:04 pm #3128The new location of NA Datacenter is in Sacramento, California.
I never had to use any VPN to reduce my ping so far, I’m paying an expensive optical fibre connection who, so far, used a good enough routing, when I was testing some VPN when the Datacenter was still in Canada, my ping wasn’t getting any real improvement, just from 110ms to 107ms, showing that my ISP was already using a good routing.
But now, I guess it’s possible I’ll get what Lyfox got, a ~25ms decrease, because the gap increased, so maybe I’ll consider paying for this.
I’ll wait first to see the monday live letter, in case they come up with a last minute miracle solution (sending back one of the 2 NA Datacenter to East Coast, or we can continue to dream, removing the server checks on every skills).May 19, 2017 at 9:43 pm #3129Yea battleping sets me at 160-175. So there’s no way to know your actual ping with battleping?
