I’ve botted in games since Everquest 1. Nearly all of them something I wrote myself. And usually not something that would have a great impact on the playerbase/economy. Usually stuff like auto-leveling skills that would take days. Miqo is one of the first where I actually paid for a service since writing my own code to navigate the world was turning into too much of a “job” and the value was worth it.
With that said, 99% of “not getting caught” is not doing it 24/7 and not making it look obvious with a touch of “don’t do something that would piss off the rest of the playerbase.” If you are harvesting 10,000 logs/day and dumping them all on the marketboard and undercutting the entire data center… you will draw attention. If you are dumping 500 logs/day, that’s something your retainers could bring back daily. If you are harvesting 10,000/day to turn into lumber for your own use, no one would know the wiser. You aren’t buying off the marketboard, but it isn’t like no one knows you aren’t buying off the marketboard.
